More Details on Kanye West’s Debut Womenswear Collection

As anticipation of Kanye West’s clothing line grows, more details have began surfacing from an insider source. The word is Kanye is working with several big players in the fashion industry such as British designers Katie Eary, Louise Goldin and Dean Quinn. And it’s being pieced together in London by graduates from the world renowned Central Saint Martins fashion college. The womenswear collection was characterized as Samurai themed high-end sportswear with baseball, biker and hoodie silhouettes among the many influences. Mr. West was described as very hands on, and said to have spent tons of money on new pieces from Balenciaga and Azzedine Alaia for inspiration.

One of the most interesting bits of detail claimed that the debut collection was actually supposed to be unveiled during New York Fashion Week, and risked not being ready in time for the Paris show because it was difficult making progress, as Kanye changed his mind frequently and there were too many opinions stifling decision making. The source went on to say that the collection “will be extraordinarily expensive” and “some of it is virtually unproduceable.”

October 1st during Paris Fashion Week has been slated as the date Kanye will make his big reveal. Do you think Yeezy has what it takes to make a significant mark on the high-end fashion world?

New artistic directors at Kenzo

Humberto Leon Carol Lim 468x309 New artistic directors at Kenzo

LVMH on Tuesday announced the appointment of Humberto Leon and Carol Lim as artistic directors of the ready-to-wear label Kenzo with immediate effect.
They replace Sardinian designer Antonio Marras, who has held the post for eight years and who shows his own name label in Milan,
“After eight successful years, LVMH and Antonio Marras have decided to end their collaboration,” LVMH said in a statement, without giving details.

“Humberto Leon and Carol Lim will bring to Kenzo the freshness of their creative talent to give a new boost to this emblematic house.
I am sure they will succeed in positioning the brand on the road to an ambitious development,” Pierre-Yves Roussel, chief executive of the fashion division of LVMH, said.
The appointments follow the arrival in January of a new chief executive, Eric Marechalle, at the helm of Kenzo.

It has been seen as an indication by analysts of LVMH chief Bernard Arnault’s desire to revitalise the label amid persistent rumours that it was going to be sold.
Leon and Lim, both 36, made their name with Opening Ceremony, the fashion concept and New York based multi-label boutiques they founded in 2002.
They will now share their time between New York and Paris.
Kenzo was created in 1970 by the Japanese designer Kenzo Takada, who sold the house in 1993 to LVMH and retired in 1999. It has around 100 boutiques worldwide.

Today's Inspiration - Milan Vukmirovic

Name
Milan Vukmirovic

Background

Born in France to a Serbian family, he was raised in Paris where he abandoned his fashion studies to take an internship at the "Jardin des modes". He was among the original founders of the now-legendary Parisian concept store, Colette, in 1997.

The turning point
After Colette his career took a brilliant turn. He was the design director for Gucci under Tom Ford, and then became the creative director at Jil Sander. Then, in 2006, he became the chief editor of the magazine L'Officiel Hommes, where he took on just about every role possible -- from styling to photographer. "I re-launched it six years ago, starting with two editions per year. Now there are four. It's kind of like my baby, as I was given free reign to do what I wanted." He's also been the creative director of Trussardi 1911 since 2007.

Things to know about him

He's a man of many hats. Journalist, photographer, stylist, creative director. And during his period at Colette, he was also a buyer. His most recent retail endeavor is The Webster in Miami Beach, which sells fashion pieces, international magazines, stylish gadgets and also carries the divine caviar from the Paris restaurant, Kaspia.

His strong point

Eclecticism. "When I create a collection, I'm already thinking about the photos, the showroom... Today it's no longer enough to design a colletion and then wait and see if it works or not." Besides, being a journalist gives him "another approach to the product."

His advice
"If you want to work in fashion, you need to know how to do many different things. If you do many different things, it feels like you lead many different lives."

Currently working on
The next Trussardi 1911 collection. We met him in Milan, before and during the presentation of his S/S 2011 collection. Besides giving the final touches to the clothing and accessories on show, he was also shooting the items for the lookbook. And all the while, holding conversations with his journalist colleagues.

Inspirations
Music, the street, contemporary culture. "Fashion is a condensation of the era in which we live."

His signature mark

When it comes to Trussardi 1911, "I think camouflage has become my particular trademark."

Nicola Formichetti New Creative Director at Thierry Mugler

Backstopped on the VMA Gaga pics… Nicola Formichetti extends his growth rate even further by joining the Thierry Mugler house as creative director. WWD confirmed the news last evening. The blogosphere (I said it) has been running on this new since as far back as June, but it looks to be a final deal at this time. Twitter is alive on the news (well, in some circles).
