The Half Windsor knot is one of the most well known tie knots in the world. It's a symmetric medium sized tie knot with the figure of a perfect triangle.

How to Tie a Tie : The Half Windsor Knot

The half-Windsor knot, also known as the single Windsor knot, is a way of tying a necktie which produces a neat, triangular knot. It is larger than the four-in-hand knot and Pratt knot but smaller than the Windsor knot. The half-Windsor is derived from the full Windsor in that it is only brought up around the loop on one side rather than both. It works well with light- and medium-weight fabrics.

To tie the half-Windsor, place the tie around your neck and cross the broad end of the tie in front of the narrow end. Fold the broad end behind the narrow end and bring it forward on the opposite side. The left and right sides of the narrow end, and the inside of the loop around your neck, form a triangle. Continue folding the tie over the sides of this triangle, rotating around the triangle in one direction. The sixth fold should bring the broad end up over the top of the knot from behind; push the end down through the loop in front of the knot between the fourth and fifth folds, work out any wrinkles, and pull the knot tight. If the tie is unbalanced, untie the knot and try again giving yourself more or less length to work with. The steps are: Start with the wide end of the tie on your right and extending a foot before the narrow end, Cross wide end over narrow and turn back underneath, Bring it up and turn it down through the loop, Pass the wide in from the front, from the left and to the right, Then, end up through the loop, and put it down through the knot in the front, tighten the knot carefully and draw it up to the collar.

The Four in Hand knot is recommended for shorter men. It's a small knot with a distinctive, elongated asymmetric shape - which directs the eye vertically up the body - giving the impression of height. The Four in Hand was also a favourite of James Bond.

The four-in-hand knot is tied by placing the tie around the neck and crossing the broad end of the tie in front of the narrow end. The broad end is folded behind the narrow end and brought forward on the opposite side, passed across the front horizontally, folded behind the narrow end again, brought over the top of the knot from behind, tucked behind the horizontal pass, and the knot pulled snug. The knot is slid up the narrow end of the tie until snug against the collar.

Lanvin for H&M Fall Winter 2010 Menswear

Finally, images of the much awaited Lanvin and H&M collection due for launch on 23 November are surfacing around the web. To the delight of all male Lanvin fans, menswear was included in this capsule collection and thru the lookbook, Lanvin's aesthetics was not at all compromised despite the lower price tag attached to the H&M collaboration pieces.

Extracts of GQ's interview with Lucas Ossendrijver

"We didn't want it to be like a second line, a Lanvin-B. We didn't want to go in their direction; we didn't want to "do H&M". We thought actually that they would have to go high-end, instead of [us] going lower. We thought about the collection and what it should be. We actually thought the way when we started the menswear five years ago: really not to think of it as a fashion collection but more of a wardrobe. For every time of the day, for every occasion, there's a garment. We wanted to apply the same idea to H&M. It's really about wardrobe essentials for every time of the day. So there's a raincoat, there's a suit, there's some shirts, there's knitwear, accessories, shoes, ties, bowties. There's a single-breasted, a double-breasted, a tuxedo, a shawl collar. Everything is there. [chuckles] It's complete. It's really thought of as a wardrobe that can be mixed together."

"We developed fabrics for them. I was really surprised actually that we had the possibility to do that because I was expecting a little bit more difficulty in adapting to their system. Are there laser-cut seams? There are actually! But I think it's only on the womenswear."
